Bad Breath In Children
Bad breath is something that is more common in adults – but it can also affect our children. Children should not be having problems with bad breath on a constant basis like adults because their teeth or new and they should have very little problems. However, there are certain things that can cause it – which should be treated.
Poor Hygiene
As with adults the most common problem that causes bad breath in children is poor hygiene. It is up to the parent to make sure that they are brushing their teeth properly and at least twice each day. Also make sure that they are using the right toothbrush and maybe even get them a tongue brusher.
Sinusitis
Some children may have acute or chronic sinusitis – which often causes bad breath. This is only a symptoms of the problem and can be treated by your doctor. Other symptoms of this include coughing, fever, nasal discharge, and swelling in the face.
Pharyngitis
The bad breath could be a sign that your child has pharygitis. This is a throat infection that can also cause them to have a sore throat. The bad odor is usually caused by the bacteria that is causing the infection.
Seasonal Allergies
Allergies will cause mucous to accumulate in the back of the throat – which in turn will cause bad breath. There are special allergy medications you are able to use to treat this. These treatments will also help to fight of postnasal drip – which may be the culprit.
Blockage In The Nose
Most kids will do things to themselves that they might think is cool – like shoving things up their nose. When something small is stuck up there it can cause an infection and thus create a bad smell. You will need to allow the doctor to remove anything.
