Preparing For Bad Breath Tests
Anyone who has bad breath will want help and confirmation from their doctor. In order to do this they will need to be tested. There are many methods that are used to test for bad breath and your doctor will choose the one they believe is the most effective. Before you go to this appointment you must first prepare for it.
It is important that you make it easy for them to rate and determine your bad breath. People who have tried brushing and flossing to no avail are in need of something stronger. For that to happen the doctor must determine how bad it really is. Most will use their nose in order to rate it – which means that they need anything that could affect this smell eliminated.
Do not eat, drink, smoke, brush your teeth, or chew gum three hours before your appointment. Do not wear any type of perfume, cologne, scented lotion, lip gloss, or lipstick. All of these products will cover the smell from your mouth and make the reading inaccurate.
Medical History
Your dentist or doctor will need to understand the root of the problem and that requires that they ask you certain questions.
- When did the symptoms of bad breath begin?
- Are the symptoms sporadic or constant?
- When and how often will you brush your teeth?
- Do you floss and how often?
- What foods do you eat?
- Do you take any medication?
- Do you normally breathe through your mouth?
- Do you snore?
- Do you have allergies?
- Do you have sinus problems?
- Why do you think you have bad breath?
- Have other people told you that you have bad breath?
It is important that you know what to expect so you are able to give them an accurate response. Be honest, and your doctor will help you get rid of and cure your bad breath!
